$19 billion School Construction Program

LAUSD1Los Angeles Unified School District is the largest school district in California and the second-largest school district in the United States, with an enrollment of more than 700,000 students in grades K-12. The District encompasses 704 square miles – a span that includes the City of Los Angeles, all or parts of 28 surrounding cities, and some nearby unincorporated areas.

The LAUSD Facilities Master Plan 2000 identified the need for 79 new schools and 60 building additions. At a construction cost of $19 billion, it comprised the largest school construction program in its history. New schools and expansions required the acquisition of over 450 acres of land.
